There are a variety of corrosion inhibitors available for treating municipal water supplies.  These include sodium hexametaphosphate, polyphosphate, orthophosphate, zinc orthophosphate, zinc polyphosphate, silicates and various blends of the above listed products.  These products are often provided in different concentrations depending upon the manufacturer and different formulations might use zinc chloride or zinc sulfate.  How can you tell the difference?  Review MSDS and technical data provided by the supplier.  Consider the active chemical concentration and the ratio of the components in the product.

Corrosion Coupon Studies

If desired Lazenby & Associates, Inc. can provide assistance with corrosion coupon studies to determine the efficacy of a particular chemical treatment or to evaluate different treatments to determine the most appropriate for a particular water treatment system.  Studies begin with a thorough evaluation of the existing/proposed system with respect to the treatment process, desired finished water quality, on-site or in distribution blending of the treated water and the adjoining/blending water source.  The goal is to help the end user provide the best available treatment for corrosion in the distribution system.

Services for Corrosion Coupon Studies

Services include assisting plant staff or consultant staff with the selection of sample source and sample point, determining how many different treatment strategies to evaluate and what those might be and why.
